Spreading the "Green" Initiative at Medgar!

On Thursday June 21, 2012 I took my water bucket and went to my two tree sites that I planted trees, at the B & C building. I met up with fellow students Clement and Tenyson Smith who assisted with watering and documenting the experience. Participation of "Green" initiatives in the surrounding Medgar Evers College public community is something I hope to improve. A tree steward program is a program I hope to initiate at Medgar Evers College, starting this summer and doing this project for at least a year. Finding financial sources to help with the project might be a difficult task but I know it can be done, even if I have to contribute my own money. All big things have a small beginning.

Million Trees Tree Steward Workshop at P.S. 166 in LIC, Queens

On Wednesday June 20, 2012 I went to a Million Trees NYC workshop at P.S 166. This event was great and outlined some tips on how to take care of the soil surrounding the tree.

First, we were given a few tools provided by MTNYC in the form of gloves, a hand rake, and a hand shovel. We removed the trash and dug up the weeds. If we dug up roots, we immediately covered the roots with dirt to prevent sunburn. After we completed the session. We were allowed to take the tools home to help care for maintaining adopted trees. In addition, we were given a mesh water bucket for watering plants and trees.

Organic Cleaners...Really?!

How can anything that uses chemicals be organic? In my opinion, nothing unless you using just hot water.
